What is Project Cargo?
Cargo too big, too heavy, or too complex for a standard container.
Project cargo logistics is the engineered movement of oversized, out-of-gauge (OOG), heavy-lift and break-bulk equipment — typically tied to a capital project such as a power plant, wind farm, refinery, mine, or infrastructure build.
Unlike containerised freight, every project shipment is bespoke: it requires route surveys, lifting plans, vessel chartering, permits, escorts and on-site supervision — orchestrated by a single project team accountable from factory floor to final foundation.
Heavy lifting for heavy single units
Break Bulk Cargo (BB), OOG/Out of Gauge, Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro/Ro), Flat Rack Container (FR), Open Top Containers (OT)

CESS / BESS
Containerised & Battery Energy Storage
PGS handles regular CESS and BESS shipments for AI data centers, mining operations, & industrial energy projects worldwide.
Our team manages cargo planning, DG compliance, vessel selection, insurance coordination, and stowage optimization using break-bulk, RoRo, and container shipping solutions to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation for oversized battery systems.
Large lot of SOC project to Brazil
Large SOC Vessel Loading Project
PGS successfully coordinated a large-scale SOC cargo movement involving 520 open-top containers shipped under one vessel operation from Dalian, China to Sepetiba, Brazil.
The project included feeder vessel arrangements, direct port calls, cargo scheduling, & specialized loading coordination to ensure smooth handling & timely delivery of all project equipment.
CNTR vessel BBK- Heavy Lifting
83 tons heavy cargo via BBK 40fr bed loading
PGS arranged the transportation of an 83-ton oversized cargo unit using BBK 40FR bed loading with direct vessel routing through Kaohsiung.
The project required specialized heavy-lift handling, secure cargo lashing, vessel coordination, and careful loading supervision to ensure safe and efficient ocean freight transportation for this critical industrial shipment.
Ferris Wheel – Total Height 66 m
Optimal Loading Plan Based on Stack Characters
Ship as one lot: 29 x 40' FR (OW+OH) + 1 x 40' OT (in gauge) + 7 x 40' GP.
PGS provides professional loading solutions and extensive liner resources, ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient ocean freight delivery for customers.
High value product-line Door to Door service
A one-stop service from the SHPR factory by door-to-door delivery to the CNEE plant
PGS managed the complete door-to-door transportation of a USD 6.95 million industrial production line project.
Services included factory dismantling, cargo measurement, packing design, lashing solutions, loading optimization, customs coordination, and final plant delivery. Despite tight schedules before the Chinese Spring Festival, the entire shipment was completed safely and successfully.
BIG BBK 40FR BED Project
3 crushers From Shanghai, China to
Navigeantes, Brazil with 14*40’fr bedding
PGS successfully transported three oversized industrial crusher units from Shanghai, China to Navegantes, Brazil using 14 flat-rack containers with specialized bedding arrangements.
The project involved heavy-lift cargo securing, route planning, vessel coordination, and customized loading solutions to ensure safe handling and reliable delivery of critical mining and industrial equipment.
RORO MAFI LOADING
1 unit disc dryer 13.73.44.16m 102 ton from Shanghai to San Antonio , Chile
PGS completed the shipment of a 102-ton disc dryer from Shanghai, China to San Antonio, Chile using MAFI roll-on/roll-off loading solutions. After detailed market analysis,
RoRo transport was selected as the most practical and cost-efficient method due to limited heavy-lift vessel availability and strict project budget requirements for oversized cargo transportation.
TRUCK CRANE
Truck Crane Export Cargo Project
PGS managed the export shipment of multiple oversized truck cranes from Taicang, China to Zarate, Argentina.
The project involved handling heavy cargo units exceeding 50 tons with complex dimensions, requiring specialized lifting coordination, secure lashing arrangements, route planning, and careful vessel loading supervision to ensure safe international project cargo transportation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Project cargo refers to the transportation of oversized, heavy, out-of-gauge (OOG), or break-bulk equipment that cannot fit into standard shipping containers. It is typically part of large-scale industrial projects like power plants, wind farms, refineries, mines, or infrastructure builds. Every project cargo shipment is unique and requires custom engineering, route surveys, permits, and specialised vessels or vehicles.
Normal container freight uses standard 20ft or 40ft containers loaded onto regular vessels. Project cargo is bespoke: it may use oversized equipment , break-bulk vessels, RoRo ships, barges, or vessel charter. It requires lifting plans, route surveys, terminal survey include but not limited to berth condition/berth window and beneficial terminal handling fee negotiation etc. and on-site supervision. One project shipment can take months to plan and execute, whereas container freight is typically booked and shipped within weeks.
PGS specialises in oil & gas, mining, petrochemical, power generation (including wind and thermal), renewable energy, industrial plants, construction, and heavy machinery. We also have dedicated expertise in CESS/BESS (energy storage systems) for data centers and mining operations.
PGS operates across Asia–Latin America (our flagship route), Asia–North America, Asia–Europe, Asia–Middle East & Africa, CIS countries, and Intra-Asia. We have owned offices or deep agent relationships at all key ports on these routes.
Planning typically takes 4 to 12 weeks depending on complexity. This includes route surveys, vessel chartering, permit applications, lift engineering, and packaging design. For very large or remote projects, planning can extend to 6 months. PGS provides a detailed project timeline upfront.
